Day 1: Lisbon
After you clear customs at Lisbon Airport, you’ll be met and transferred to the Hotel of preference in Lisbon. We have no planned activities, today, so you can rest and relax and adapt to the time difference.
Day 2: Lisbon, Fátima, Batalha, Nazaré, Alcobaça, Óbidos, Lisbon
Be sure to be at Praça Marques de Pombal at 9:00 am to atart a full-day tour that will take you to the region north of Libon. Drive to Fátima, the heart of Catholic faith and world pilgrimage site. The Shrine of Fátima is a must see that has been blessed by Virgin Mary’s apparitions and the benedictions of many popes. Later you will visit the Monastery of the Dominicans of Batalha which was built in 1385 to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese over the Castilians at the battle of Aljubarrota. Its highly original building in the national Gothic style and influenced by Manueline art, as demonstrated by its masterpiece, the Royal Cloister. Then, enjoy the seaside at Nazaré, once a busy fishing village and now a surfers’ paradise because of its wonderful waves. Continue on to Alcobaça to visit another Unesco designated monument. The Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça, was founded in the 12th century by King Alfonso I. Its size, the purity of its architectural style, the beauty of the materials and the care with which it was built make this a masterpiece of Cistercian Gothic art. The tour also includes a visit to the mediaeval town of Óbidos which is one of the most picturesque and well preserved in Portugal. You might explore its castle within the walls, its maze of streets and white houses that are a delight to stroll along. Return to Lisbon for overnight at your hotel. [B]
Day 3: Lisbon
After you enjoy breakfast at your hotel take a short walk to Praça Marques de Pombal to start this morning’s sightseeing. Lisbon is, without a doubt, a charming capital city and this tour will allow you to discover the different facets that make up the uniqueness of one of Europe’s most beautiful capitals.
Lisbon is a city with an Atlantic soul and a Mediterranean vibe, special for its varied heritage and styles. You will marvel at the very special urban landscape blessed by an extraordinary light! Enjoy a glimpse of the city from the old neighborhoods of the center to the new buildings at the renewed East side, always driving along the Tagus River.
From Marques de Pombal drive to Principe Real a very lively and fashionable area, and then to Bairro Alto, one of the oldest neighborhoods, and Chiado, an elegant, sophisticated district of theaters, bookshops, and old-style cafes, the beloved hearth of the city from the 18th century. Driving down to the river, you will explore Cais de Sodré bustling area and Praça do Comércio, one of the most beautiful and elegant squares facing the Tagus River. Continue on along the city’s harbor and pass by the famous Tile Museum set in a monastery from the 16th century. Then you will reach Parque das Nações a totally renewed area where you will find the most impressive contemporary buildings such as the Portuguese Pavilion, Vasco da Gama Tower, Oceanarium and Oriente Station, all of them designed by world-class contemporary architects.
Finally you will reach again Parque Eduardio VII and the starting point driving through Lisbon modernist avenues from the 60’.
Day 4: Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais
The town of Sintra, which is only only 30 minutes from Lisbon, is perched in an hill overlooking the sea, covered with luxuriant vegetation. Sintra has long seduced poets both from home and abroad. Sintra, the “Glorious Eden” of Lord Byron and ancient summer refuge of the royal court, is today the natural setting for stunning monuments, singular gardens rich with exotic plants. You will climb the winding route to Sintra’s rocky summit, where the most emblematical example of Portuguese Romantic architecture, the Pena Palace was constructed. The palace itself is the crown jewel of the mountain, but the park, planned to imitate the perfection of nature, is even more surprising bringing together no less than 2,000 different botanical species. Time to exlore the town on your own and then drive back to Lisbon following the Atlantic route of rare beauty. Stop at Cabo da Roca the westernmost point of continental Europe and amaze at its incredible landscape of rocks and Ocean. En route to Lisbon stop at Cascais and Estoril set along the beautiful route along the Ocean.
Day 5: Lisbon
Breakfast at the hotel and free day to wander the streets of Lisbon and, maybe, shop for the traditional “filigree” (ornamental work of gold or silver wire formed into delicate representations of caravels, typical heart designs or other Portuguese folkloric motives), hand painted ceramic or cork artifacts.
 Option: Lisbon by Night with Fado Show and dinner
After been picked up from your hotel, you will discover the amazing monuments of the Portuguese capital with the superb atmosphere of the evening: the roundabout of Pombal Square, Avenida da Liberdade, Rossio and Terreiro do Paço, known as Commerce Square or Black Horse Square. Continue your ride and discover the most important sites of Lisbon: Belem's tower, a stunning fortification of the 16th century as impressive as beautiful, not far from the Monument to the Discoveries and, just across, the Jeronimos Monastery a masterpiece of the Manueline style unique to Portugal and a uncluttered view of the Lisbon bridge and the Cristo Rei. To finish this memorable evening, have a delicious Portuguese dinner and discover the local folklore with a show of the typical Fado, the traditional Portuguese music at restaurant the old Lisbon.
Day 6: Lisbon, USA
After breakfast at your hotel you may have some time for shopping depending on the schedule of your returning or continuing flight. At the appointed time you’ll be met at your hotel and transferred to Lisbon’s Portela Airport for your flight back home. [B]
