Day 1: Kiruna, Jukkasjarvi

Arrive in Kiruna in the afternoon. Pick up by a driver at the airport and transfer to Ice Hotel. You can take a guided tour of the Ice Hotel and learn about its history. The hotel has been redesigned and rebuilt every year since 1990 using one of the purest materials on earth -

water. The designers and photographers are rightly proud of their unique artwork and designs. Your clothes and luggage are stored in the warm building in conjunction with Ice Hotel, which has lockers, showers and a sauna. Morning sauna, towels and breakfast buffet included. Overnight in Jukkasjarvi.

 

Day 2: Jukkasjarvi, Kiruna

Breakfast served at hotel. After breakfast proceed for the “Artic Wildlife Safari” tour. Along with a local guide, this tour takes you through the magnificent mountain scenery. Learn about the wild animals native to this region, how the moose affects the climate here and tracking them, as well as reindeer and grouse. * Includes: transfer and lunch with local ingredients.

Transfer to your own to hotel in Kiruna for check-in. Proceed to the Aurora Expedition. Drive a snowmobile in search of the Northern lights. You will drive in our own track and take a break for coffee and sandwich and some delicacies from Lapland around an open-air fire in a wooden

hut. (Includes: guide, 2 persons per snowmobile, helmet, coffee & sandwich, transfers, winter clothing, boots, winter overalls, thick gloves and warm hat). Overnight in Kiruna. [B/L]

 

Day 3: Kiruna

Free day to enjoy Kiruna on your own. We suggest the following activities to get a full experience of magical Kiruna. Overnight in Kiruna. [B]

 

 [1] Option: Lapland Experience

A dogsled tour is for many the best way to experience the nature and the wilderness during the winter. Dogs pull sled through the woods and over the plains. During the break around the fire you will be served some coffee and sandwich. 4/5 persons sit on a big sled, 10/12 dogs, and guide will drive. *Includes: guide, winter clothing (boots, winter overalls, thick gloves, warm hat), coffee & sandwich and transfer.

 

[2] Option: Nature Moose Safari

We go by minivan along Kalix River valley in search of moose. When we spot moose we will stop and try to get a good shot with camera. We will have outdoor lunch during the tour. *Includes: guide, winter clothing (boots, winter overalls, thick gloves, warm hat), lunch and transfer

 

[3] Option: Sámi tour with a short reindeer sledding

A short ride with snowmobile and sleds and we arrive to the reindeer camp where we keep and feed our reindeer during winter. The reindeer will be harnessed and reindeer caravan is ready for departure. You have the chance to try to drive with your own reindeer sled around a short track, if you want you can compete with other drivers or you just take a peaceful ride. Afterwards we will enter the reindeer enclosures where you feed our small ones, i.e. the reindeer calves. The reindeer will curiously come and eat out of your hand. Our guide will tell you more about the reindeer and work within reindeer herding. You will be invited into a lávvu, i.e. Sámi tent. where you will sit on reindeer skins around a sparkling fire and learn more about the indigenous people of Fennoscandia, i.e. the Sámi culture, history and our way of life. Sipping your coffee and tasting suovas, the Sámi national dish, will be the culmination of the tour, before we return back to Jukkasjärvi. *Includes: transfer, lunch, Guide

 

Day 4: Kiruna, Stockholm

Before you leave Kiruna for this time, enjoy the morning on your own. Private transfer to the airport for your flight to Stockholm (flight not arranged by HWDT). Pick up at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Stockholm. [B]

 

Day 5: Stockholm

Breakfast is served at the hotel. A SIB panoramic sightseeing tour by bus is included today.

Take a look at City Hall, constructed in the National Romantic style, where each year on December 10th the Nobel price banquette takes place. See the Old Town, which is in direct contrast with today’s modern city center. *Transfer to departure point on own. Free time to explore & shop in Stockholm. Overnight in Stockholm. [B]

 

[4] Option: ICE BAR

In the evening, take the opportunity to visit Absolut Ice bar where the temperature is 23 degrees Fahrenheit all year round and everything is made of ice, even your glass! (Includes warm clothes, 1 drink and entrance fee for 45 min)

 

Day 6: Stockholm

Breakfast served at your hotel. Today is free time for optional tours in Stockholm. Overnight in Stockholm. [B]

 

[5] Option: Vasa Museum

Visit the Vasa Ship museum to see the warship Vasa – the only remaining, intact 17th century ship in the world, Skansen outdoor museum and the island of Djurgården. If you didn’t see enough of the beautiful archipelago there is also an opportunity to go out on a boat trip.

[6] Option: Skansen

Skansen is the world's first open-air museum, founded in 1891. Here you can stroll through five centuries of Swedish history, from north to south, with a real sense of the past all around in the historical buildings and dwellings, peopled by characters in period dress.

Day 7: Stockholm, USA

Breakfast served at your hotel. After breakfast a private car will pick you up at the hotel for you transfer to Stockholm Airport. It’s time to leave Scandinavia for now, unless you prefer an add-on trip in one of these beautiful and inviting countries. [B]
