Day 1: San Jose, Naranjo (25 miles - 1:00 hour)
Welcome to Costa Rica! (Make sure to book a flight arriving early afternoon.)
Upon arrival at Juan Santamaría Int’l Airport (SJO), our representative will meet you and assist with picking up your car to start your self-driven journey through Costa Rica. Your 50 minute ride through the Central Mountain Range is easy and offers a first glimpse at the diversity the country has to offer including the beautiful Naranjo Coffee Plantations and great views of valleys, mountains and volcanoes. After check in at your hotel, enjoy the rest of the day and evening at leisure.
Chayote Lodge sits amidst the coffee region of Llano Bonito de Naranjo. The intimate lodge offers a unique experience combining nature, culture and, of course, coffee. Guests will have the option to stay in one of the 6 suites that have been designed to resemble a coffee receiving station. Each of the individual 500 square-foot bungalows includes a king size bed, a private sitting area, large two-sink bathrooms and balcony with views to Poas, Barva and Irazu volcanoes. The main building, hosts a restaurant, bar, terrace café and fireplace.
Note: Please ensure your flight arrives early enough to have time to pass customs & immigration, pick-up your car and still have at least 1:30 of day light for your trip to Naranjo.
Day 2: Naranjo
This morning you will wake up to views of extensive coffee plantations and beautiful Costa Rica’s central valley. Drive 15 minutes to join the Espiritu Santo Coffee tour, where you will learn the traditional methods of coffee production. In the afternoon, take a leisurely walk along the paths of your hotel to appreciate the flora and fauna of this region. [B]
Day 3: Naranjo, Arenal Volcano (65 miles – 2:40)
Drive to the Arenal Volcano area passing through different towns such as Zarcero, San Carlos and Florencia. The route offers beautiful scenery of the mountains and crop fields. Arrive at La Fortuna where the mighty Arenal Volcano will welcome you. This volcano has been active since 1969 being one of the world’s most active volcanoes and a highlight of Costa Rica. Check In at the hotel where you will find a unique blend between the hospitality of the local culture and the warm tropical climate, making your escape an unparalleled experience for the next two nights. Enjoy the hotel’ own hot springs, and relax by the pools in one of the most beautiful settings in the country. [B]
Day 4: Arenal Volcano
Your guided visit to Arenal Volcano National Park includes transportations from and to the hotel, so you can leave your car for a while and relax while a professional tour guide takes you through the best parts of the national park. The afternoon is at leisure for optional activities. [B]
Day 5: Arenal Volcano, Manuel Antonio Park & Beach (162 miles – 5:10)
Drive to Manuel Antonio National Park and beaches to spend the next three nights enjoy the exceptional beauty and tranquility of the national park, one of the icons of Costa Rica. The enchanting white-sand beaches found here are ideal for swimming and the tropical rainforest is filled with wildlife. The numerous activities and places to see will make your stay an unforgettable experience. [B]
Day 6: Manuel Antonio Park & Beach
Today relish the half-day guided visit to Manuel Antonio National Park, including transportation, so no driving is required. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the facilities of the hotel or take some optional activities available in the area. The Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the most famous in Costa Rica due to the wide variety of its fauna and flora. The park offers 3 different trails varying in grade from flat to very steep. A naturalist guide will accompany throughout the hike where you’ll be able to observe sloths, birds and reptiles as well as admire orchids, butterflies and tropical trees. [B]
Day 7: Manuel Antonio Beach
The last day in this paradise is at leisure to enjoy the facilities of the hotel or participate in optional activities such as rafting and horseback riding. [B]
Day 8 Manuel Antonio, San Jose, USA (110 miles – 2:55)
Drive back to San Jose airport to drop-off your car and take your flight back home. [B]
