Day 1: Rio de Janeiro
After you pass customs and immigration at Galeão International Airport you will be met and assisted by our representative who will escort you to your hotel in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to rest and relax after the long flight. Maybe you want to dip into the ocean, relax in the sun or stroll along the famous beach. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Rio de Janeiro
The morning is at leisure to experience the beach life in Copacabana. In the afternoon, your guide will pick you up at your hotel and drive you to the Downtown area where the city was born. There you will learn about the Rio’s early history, see the contrast between the modern and ancient buildings and churches, visit the pyramid shaped Metropolitan Cathedral, drive by the Imperial Palace and Museum of Fine Arts and the Municipal Theater among other historical buildings. Following is a visit to the Sugar Loaf. Take 2 cable cars to get to the summit of the mountain, where you will find out why Rio carries the nickname of Marvelous city! Return to the hotel for overnight. [B]
Day 3: Rio de Janeiro
After breakfast you will be picked-up for your morning tour. From any place of the city, the visitor can see the most beautiful postcard of Rio de Janeiro: Christ the Redeemer statue in the mountain of Corcovado located at 2,330 ft. above sea level and inaugurated in 1931. From our hotel we ride through some of the iconic areaa of Rio such as the Lagoon and Botanical Gardens to head to the Cosme Velho neighborhood from where the cog train starts a trip through the Tijuca Forest, the largest urban forest in the world, up to the statue. Once there, a panoramic and extraordinary view of Rio can be seen including the Sugar Loaf, the Guanabara Bay, the beaches of Southern Zone and the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon. After the visit of the Corcovado, we return to our hotel. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the city on own. Overnight the hotel. [B/D]
Day 4: Rio de Janeiro, Iguassu Falls
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before your transfer to Rio’s airport for a short flight to Iguassu where you will be met and assisted on the way to your hotel. Iguassu Falls, with its 275 drops is one of the most impressive in the world and was declared Patrimony of the Humankind by UNESCO. This afternoon you will tour the Brazilian side of the falls, walk along the paths and the catwalks that allow privileged views of the Devil’s Throat. At the end of the day, return to your hotel for overnight. [B]
Day 5: Iguassu Falls
This morning we cross the border to visit the Argentinean side of the Falls. This private tour will take you to the picture-perfect spots. Upon arrival at the Iguazu National Park, on the Argentinean side, ride a train to the Garganta Station and, from there, a delightful walk will lead you to the Devil’s Throat – the most impressive of the falls. Soak up the views before you take your train back to the park entrance and board the bus to go back to the hotel. [B]
Day 6: Iguassu Falls, Manaus, Amazon Forest
Breakfast and transfer to Iguassu Airport to catch a flight to Manaus. On arrival you will be assisted by a guide and transferred to the Juma lodge. The journey takes a total of three hours divided into three parts: speed boat, van and speed boat again. There will be a stop to observe the magnificent Meeting of the Waters, where the muddy waters of the Solimões River meet the black waters of the Negro River. At this crucial junction point, the two rivers, without actually mixing, run side by side, thus forming the great Amazon River. Upon arrival at Juma Amazon Lodge, enjoy a warm greeting where a welcome drink with exotic fruits awaits you. Time to rest. Dinner at the lodge followed by an evening expedition to observe frogs, birds and most importantly, caimans. Our guide uses his flashlight to help spot caimans. With this light, we can see the caiman’s eyes, which reflects a bright red dot, as the animal remains paralyzed and clearly visible. Overnight. [B/D]
Day 7: Amazon Forest
Early in the morning we will depart for a sunrise excursion witnessing the transformation of the sky and listening to the sounds of the waking birds. Our guides are equipped with binoculars to complement this experience with bird watching. Enjoy a breakfast with typical fruits and regional food. Depart for a jungle hike. In this educational jungle walk, our expert guide will introduce you to the wildlife of the Amazon. Return to the lodge for lunch with regional and international cuisine. After lunch we’ll take a tour around the lodge. This tour allows guests to experience Juma, built completely upon stilts, from a unique perspective: underneath. This fascinating approach provides insight regarding the construction of Juma and the role of sustainability within the lodge. Later in the afternoon we’ll board a motorboat with one of our guides to fish and learn more about the infamous piranha, as well as other Amazonian fish native to the river. Dinner will be provided from the fish you caught earlier in the afternoon. Following dinner, one of our native guides will offer an informal lecture regarding everyday life in the Amazon, and the legends, traditions and culture of the region. Overnight. [B/L/D]
Day 8: Amazon Forest, Manaus, Salvador
Breakfast followed by departure from the lodge. On the way back to Manaus, we will stop at the Pirarucu Floating Dock to see the giant Pirarucu fish (also known as Arapaima), reaching 3 meters high (9,8 ft) and 200 kg (440 lbs)! From the Floating Dock you can feed the fish and observe their impressive strength. From there you will be dropped off at the airport to board your flight to Salvador. Upon arrival at Salvador you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure for you start exploring the first capital city of Brazil. Overnight at the hotel. [B]
Day 9: Salvador
After breakfast, depart on a tour of historic Salvador, and learn why the city is considered the black capital of Brazil. Walk on through the coble streets of the Pelourinho area, with its 300 years of history. Among the attractions are the African Museum, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of the Blacks, the San Francisco Church, covered in gold and stunning views of the All Saints Bay. In the afternoon explore the city on your own, taste the unique local cuisine, enjoy the typical music and take beautiful photos of the water-colored houses in the old streets. Overnight at the hotel. [B]
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and get ready to pack your bags as soon you will be picked up and assisted on your transfer to Salvador da Bahia Airport for your flight starting your trip back home. [B]
