Day 1: Budapest
Arrival at Budapest airport and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day free. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. [D]
Day 2: Budapest
Today discover Budapest. Visit the Castle district, Matthias church and Fishermen’s Bastion. Take pictures and look around. The next stop is the Citadel on the Gellért Hill, where the best panoramic view of Budapest can be seen. Go back to the Pest side on the Elizabeth Bridge to the Heroes’ Square. Enjoy a walk along the Andrássy Avenue, which is a World Heritage site. See the Opera house and Budapest’s biggest church, the St Stephen’s Basilica. Free afternoon. Dinner at the hotel. [B/D]
Day 3: Budapest (Visegrad, Esztergom)
Explore Hungary's history along the Danube river. Visit Visegrad and the 750-year-old ruins of the formal Royal Residence. Learn about life in the Middle Ages and enjoy the panorama of the Danube Valley. Continue to Esztergom, considered the Northern gate of Budapest and the center of the Catholic church. Visit Hungary's largest cathedral, a resting place of famous Hungarian cardinals. Then board a boat for your trip back to Budapest and enjoy lunch aboard. Pass the Danube Bend and discover scenic landscapes. Disembark in Budapest with free time until dinner at the hotel. [B/L/D]
Day 4: Budapest (Szentendre)
Travel to picturesque Szentendre, the Artists Village. Enjoy its scenery and its buildings, which continue to attract painters and sculptors. Walk along quaint streets in the Baroque center. Visit the famous Szamos Marzipan Museum and continue to the Ceramic and Confectionary Museums. Visit the orthodox churches displaying some of Hungary's most beautiful icons. Back to Budapest. Dinner at the hotel. [B/D]
Day 5: Budapest (Lake Balaton)
Explore the idyllic landscape, the charming villages and the lake. Take a swim in the clean water during summer or just feast your eyes on the magnificence of the Balaton with its quiet little settlements and sailing boats surrounded by nature at her most graceful! The city of Balatonfüred is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Hungary with several famous and less well-known but all the more authentic restaurants to discover. Your guide will show you the best of the best in Badacsony, and Tihany to explore at your own pace the regional history, culture and wines. Enjoy lunch at lake side before returning to Budapest. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. [B/L/D]
Day 6: Budapest (Kecskemet)
Departure to the beautiful baroque town of Kecskemet, the eighth largest city in Hungary, located about 50 miles from Budapest in the center of the country. Your guide will take you on a scenic drive to Kecskemet, where you’ll have the chance to view the expansive landscape of the Great Plains along the way. Once in Kecskemet, you’ll explore around town with your guide, witnessing streets filled with colorful Art Nouveau architecture, museums and bottles of the region’s famous apricot brandy. Afterward you’ll head to Lajosmizse, where you will receive a traditional welcome drink. The celebrated horsemen of the area will put on an exciting performance before you’re swept away in a carriage ride through the Puszta, a grassland biome on the Great Hungarian Plain. Then it’s time to eat! Your guide will lead you to a traditional Hungarian tavern to enjoy a three-course meal and wine from the region. Gypsy music will keep the mood festive while you dine. You’ll travel through the scenic Great Plains on the way back to Budapest, admiring wheat fields, grassland and rustic farms along the way. Return to Budapest for a farewell dinner at a typical Magyar restaurant. [B/L/D]
Day 7: Budapest, USA
Leisure time, depending on your flight schedule. At the appointed time transfer to the airport to board your flight back home. [B]
