Day 1: Maputo
Arrival in Maputo. Welcome and transfer to your hotel. Relaxing afternoon by the sea. Free meals and accommodation at the hotel. [L/D]
In this busy city (nicknamed “New York of Africa”) the testimonies of the colonial past remain numerous. You just have to walk around the city center to realize it! The buildings seem to come directly from the 19th century, in particular those of Central Station and the Post Office. Do not miss Our-Lady of Fatima Cathedral, a Catholic church built in 1944 whose whiteness stands out from the mass of other buildings. But Maputo is also essentially African. We especially feel it in the markets that dot its streets. Continue to the “Baixa” (downtown) are near the busy harbor to walk the Central Market, a very picturesque place, where you will find of course all seafood, but also fruits, vegetables, sculptures and products from local crafts such as baskets. The building itself, built at the very beginning of the 20th century, is impressive. Stop for lunch at one of the local restaurants before visiting Tunduru Botanical Garden, very shaded and particularly appreciated for its freshness, especially in summer! Enjoy a few moments of calm before a visit to the most typical fish marker where you’ll find all kinds of species straight out of the sea. You will also find them at the tables in the Costa del Sol quarter, with view over the Indian Ocean and palm trees, with several restaurants offering fish and shell-fish caught, prepared and cooked by the people who serve you! Have dinner at one of them before returning to your hotel for overnight. [B/L/D]
Day 3: Maputo (Elephant Reserve)
Today, we head south to the Elephant reserve covering an area of 259 thousand acres of natural landscape comprising wonderful sandy soiled forests and mangroves, swamps and vegetated parabolic dunes. The elephant is the most charismatic species in the reserve, even though the visitors can also observe zebras, giraffes, hippopotami, crocodiles and a variety of antelopes and birds, like the famous African fish eagle. Along the coastline, there are several locations prepared to host visitors that offer an ideal place for lunch along the crystal-clear waters. After the afternoon game drive return to Maputo for dinner and overnight at the hotel. [B/L/D]
Day 4: Maputo, Beira, Gorongosa
After breakfast you’ll be driven to the airport for a 1-hour flight to Beira where our guide will pick you up for a 3½-hour transfer to the Gorongosa National Park. Check-in and have lunch. In the afternoon take your first game drive. Relax before dinner at the camp. Overnight in Gorongosa.. [B/L/D]
Located in the Province of Sofala, the Gorongosa National Park is one of the biggest success stories in the restoration of wildlife in Africa. In 2008, a 20-year public-private partnership for managing the Park was established between the Government and the Carr Foundation, with the objective of ensuring the biodiversity conservation and stimulate ecotourism in Gorongosa. The Park’s unique biodiversity, including dense savannahs, acacias and charismatic carnivore and herbivore species, as well as hundreds of bird species, brings, each year, tourists that really enjoy being in contact with nature. The Gorongosa National Park is considered by many the Mozambican Serengeti, with a stunning diversity of species and landscapes.
Day 5-6: Gorongosa
Two days at the park to enjoy game drives guided by specialized park rangers. Take advantage of the relaxing pre-sunset periods with a refreshing dink in the balcony or at the bar before a dinner prepared with local vegetables, meats and fish. All meal are included. [B/L/D]

Day 9: Mozambique Island
After breakfast, our guide will meet you at the hotel to take you on a sightseeing tour of the Island.
The historical and cultural singularity and the valuable architectural heritage, make the Island a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to the fortifications, among the various constructions, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Baluarte, inside the fortress, stands out. Other outstanding buildings are the Palace and the Chapel of S. Paulo, Church of Mercy, St. Domingos Convent, currently the local Court, Church of Nossa Senhora da Saúde, the Central Mosque or Grand Mosque, the Hindu Temple, the old warehouse and the Slaves’ House. In 2007, the building of Garden of Memory, represented a significant landmark in homage to the “rescue and redemption of black humanity” and, at the same time, evoking the preservation of the cultural diversity of peoples.
