Day 1: Lima
Welcome to Lima! Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure to explore the city at your pace. Later enjoy a savory dinner at one of the renowned restaurants in Lima [D]
Day 2: Lima (Typical Peruvian Market and Cooking demo)
Visit one of Lima’s main markets to see the amazing variety of fish, fruit, and vegetables used in Peruvian food. Afterwards a chef will demonstrate how to prepare Peru’s main dishes and teach you how to make an exquisite typical Peruvian meal. Your culinary experience ends with a delicious lunch. [B/L]
Day 3: Lima (Historic Tour, Larco Museum and Barranco)
Your day starts with a tour to the historic Lima city tour. Lima is also known as “the City of the Kings” and an UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. You will see the Main Square, sit of the Government Palace, the Catholic Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, the City Hall and the Santo Domingo Convent.
Following you will visit one of the most complete museums in Latin America: the Larco Museum, with its unequaled collection called the Treasures of Ancient Peru. The museum inspires visitors to discover, learn, and admire more than five thousand years of history of ancient Peru. There are more than 45,000 ceramic artifacts on display, mostly from the Moche civilization, which were compiled by Rafael Larco Hoyle, an important Peruvian archeologist and art collector. One of the museum’s remarkable exhibitions is the so-called “erotic” pottery. Now, we go back to the hotel.
In the afternoon you will visit Baranco. A charming district with a vast tradition and history, boasting lovely streets, old mansions, art galleries, designer boutiques, and craft stores.
You will cross the famous “Puente de los Suspiros”, visit the Pedro de Osma Museum that showcases a fine collection of Colonial paintings, furniture, and textiles. Then continue to the small museum of the renowned Peruvian fashion photographer Mario Testino.
Lastly you will have a Pisco class at the B hotel. Learn from the experts, and toast to life!
Now you go back to the hotel to relax from this active day. [B]
Day 4: Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley
At agreed time, transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Pick up at arrival followed by a panoramic transfer to the Sacred Valley. Later this afternoon you will go to the Wayra Restaurant for a pizza night extravaganza! Prepare, cook, and bon appetite! Later on, you be taken to your hotel for overnight. [B/S]
Day 5: Sacred Valley (Chinchero and Ollantaytambo)
Chinchero is a lovely little town in the Sacred Valley that, according to the Incas, was the birthplace of the rainbow. You start today’s tour at the Inca's Balcony, a beautiful terrace with an impressive view of Chinchero. A small community of twelve families of indigenous people still lives here. They preserve their traditions, language and costumes, and will share with you the ancestral technique of dyeing wool to obtain the vivid colors you find throughout Peru. Afterwards visit Ollantaytambo, one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the ancient Inca Empire. Ollantaytambo an Incan military, religious, and agricultural center rests on a mountain peak. From this imposing site, one can look down and appreciate the amazingly narrow streets and canals that have remained untouched since the Incan times. After a typical lunch at the elegant Casa Hacienda Huayocari, go back to your hotel to relax in the beautiful landscapes of the Sacred Valley. [B/L]
Day 6: Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Cusco
Your day starts with an early transfer to Ollanta train station where you board the train to the small city of Aguas Calientes, gateway to the Citadel of Machu Picchu. Disembark and board a bus headed for the amazing Machu Picchu archaeological site. Go back 500 years in time and immerse yourself in the history of the Incan civilization, provided by your expert guide. Learn why Machu Picchu was designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and voted one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Afterwards, you have free time to explore the site on your own; relax, or meditate. Later, descend to Aguas Calientes, have lunch at the lovely Café Inkaterra before you board the train back to Cusco or Sacred Valley. Upon arrival you be picked up and transferred to your Cusco hotel. [B/L]
Day 7: Cusco & surroundings (Cooking class)
Enjoy a demonstration of Peruvian cuisine in the picturesque Pachapapa restaurant in the artistic San Blas neighborhood tasting the delicious wood oven cooked dishes of the Andean cuisine.
After lunch, get ready to explore Cusco! A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Start at the Koricancha temple, an ancient Incan palace and a place of worship for the Sun God, which in the past was fully covered in gold. Over its ruins, the Dominicans built a beautiful church that remains intact. Your next stop is the Plaza de Armas. Here you find the Catholic Cathedral and the picturesque Church of the Society of Jesus, among other colonial buildings. Continue your journey to the colonial church of San Cristóbal. Enjoy the spectacular view of the city before you proceed to the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, an Incan building known for its 30-foot tall walls made of hewn stone. This fortress that was built atop of a hill offers a scenic view of Cuzco. Finish your tour with a visit to the archaeological complexes of Qenko, with its stone labyrinth and sacrificial alter, and Puca Pucara, a site of military ruins, an architectural marvel of waterways and aqueducts. Day 8: Cusco, Lima, USA
Morning at leisure. At agreed time transfer to the airport to board your flight to Lima connecting to your flight back home. [B]
