Day 6 – Jan 3: Melbourne
Your driver guide will meet you this morning to take you on a tour of the Yarra Valley. We have hand-picked the very best wineries to show you the marvelous world of Australian wines. The Yarra Valley is one of Australia's premier cool climate wine regions. Located approximately 50 km north-east of Melbourne near the towns of Yarra Glen and Healesville, the Yarra Valley is recognized for producing some of the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Australia. The De Bortoli family cultivate three unique vineyard estates in three parts of the region. The Winery Vineyard at Dixons Creek, which is home to the winery, Cellar Door, Cheese Shop and Locale Restaurant, is in the Northern section of the Yarra Valley. Today, we enjoy a wine and cheese tasting straight from their maturation room. Our next stop is at the winery of Ninth-generation winemaker Dominique Portet. Dominique chose the cool climate of aptly named Coldstream in the Yarra Valley as home to the eponymous winery he founded in 2000. The winery is set in among the beautiful rolling vineyards of the Yarra Valley. It has a Mediterranean atmosphere and provides a window onto the workings of the vineyard and winery. Time to experience some of the wines before moving on to our next stop. Enjoy a two-course lunch at the family owned and operated winery and restaurant of Tokar Estate. After lunch, we will visit Helen & Joey Estate, a boutique winery located in the sub region of Gruyere, home to many internationally recognized and iconic producers who share the same soil type and aspect of this estate. Sample some of the wines from the Alena Collection. These wines are the most special parcels from their estate on Spring Lane. Return to your hotel late afternoon. [B/L]
