Day 1: Pristina
Arrival at the airport, transfer to Pristina and check-in at the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Dinner at the hotel. [D]
Day 2: Pristina
This morning we visit Pristina, Capital of Kosovo, the youngest country in Europe. This panoramic walking tour will allow you to discover a vibrant and ever-changing city. Explore the political and economic capital of Kosovo and discover an architectural contrast never before seen in Europe. During the tour, visit the Pristina Library, Mother Teresa Cathedral, Skanderbeg Square, the Old Town, the Great Mosque, Clock Tower and end at the Pristina market. The rest of the day is free for you to discover your preferred spots on your own. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. [B/D]
Day 3: Pristina, Peja
After breakfast, depart for Peja, the largest town in western Kosovo located at the foot of the Rugova mountains and gorges. Reach the Drin Blanc waterfall, stroll to the top where you will reach the "Sleeping Beauty" caves for an interior visit of the galleries carved for centuries by the force of the water. Lunch in a traditional restaurant in Peja. After lunch, visit the Patriarchal Monastery of Peja, one of the strongholds of the Orthodox religion in the region. Admire its many well-preserved frescoes as well as the calm and serene atmosphere present in this place. Visit the Ethnological Museum of Peja where you will immerse yourself in the traditional life of the 20th century Kosovars. Then drop off your luggage at the hotel and enjoy your hotel Spa. Dinner accompanied by traditional Albanian music and dances before returning to the hotel for overnight. [B/L/D]
Day 4: Peja, Desan, Gjakova, Rahovec, Prizren
After breakfast, set off towards Visoki Decan Monastery, a monument dating from the 14th century and classified as a UNESCO heritage site. You can admire the frescoes that constitute one of the peaks of Serbian art, powerfully inspired by Byzantine art, in particular by the Church of Saint Savior of Constantinople. You will then go to a "Kula", a traditional Albanian house to discover Albanian culture. Lunch in Oda, a traditional place where Albanians used to meet for meals. Take the road and stop in Gjakova, a charming town with its authentic old center and many craft stalls. Meet with local craftsmen who practice trades that no longer exist in Western Europe. Discover makers of "Pli" (traditional Albanian hat), "diep" (wooden cradles) as well as Albanian seamstresses. Continue to Prizren and stop in the town of Rahovec famous for its vineyards. Discover the wine-growing world of Kosovo by visiting a family-owned business and tasting several internationally recognized local wines. Finally arrive in Prizren and check into your hotel for dinner and overnight. [B/L/T/D]
Day 5: Prizren, Gracanica
This morning we visit Prizren, the cultural and historical capital of Kosovo. Surrounded by mountainous landscapes, discover the old Ottoman center of the city where the Lumbardhi river passes. Then we drive to Prizren Fortress for a breathtaking view of the city. After lunch in a traditional restaurant in Prizren, set off towards Gracanica through the Sharr Mountains making a stop in a village for a tasting of Sharr cheese. Continue on to the Marble Grotto or Gadime Grotto. Discover an underground world of breathtaking stalactites, stalagmites and aragonites, which formed over 200 million years ago. Blue, red, white and yellow elements abound along the cave ceilings, walls and floors, providing an extraordinary experience. You will then reach Gracanica, a Serbian village located 10 minutes from Pristina. Check-in at the hotel and free time in a beautiful natural setting. Dinner and overnight in Gracanica. [B/L/T/D]
Day 6: Gracanica (Novo Brdo)
After breakfast, visit the UNESCO-listed Gracanica Monastery. You will set off towards the Bear Sanctuary or "Sanctuary of the Bears", a park in which many captive bears in Kosovo and Albania were released. Then leave for Kukaj, a small village rebuilt as it originally was, located in the mountains where you will enjoy a traditional Albanian meal like Flija (pie made up of several layers of pancakes covered with cream). After lunch, head to Novo Brdo Castle located on the heights of a plateau offering a splendid panoramic view of the region. (4-hour hike possible for a group limited to 20 people). Return to your hotel in Gračanica at the end of the day. Dinner and overnight in Gracanica. [B/L/D]
Day 7: Gracanica, Pristina, USA
Breakfast at the hotel. Depending on the time of your flight, you may take advantage of possible free time to wander one last time in the city and, maybe get some souvenirs. At the appointed time you’ll be picked-up and driven to the airport to board your flight back home. [B]
